DC-Direkt – Intelligenter DC-Mittelspannungs-Verteilnetze zur direkten Anbindung von strom-richtergekoppelten Erzeugern und Lasten or in english „Intelligent Medium Voltage DC Distribution Grids for the direct connection of converter interfaces generation and loads“.
DC-Direkt is concerned with the technical and economic study of Medium-Voltage DC systems (MVDC) at the distribution network level, in particular for industrial installations, ship networks as well as for connection of wind power plants. In addition to increasing system efficiency and reliability, due to the stronger meshing of the subcomponents in a DC bus, the main focus is the reduction of the total cost, by eliminating or simplifying conversion components. For example In an industrial installation the DC bus represents an intermediate media between the classical AC 50Hz network and the set of loads, which typically operate at variable speed such as electrical drives.
The research project encompasses the systematic comparison of existing AC or low voltage DC reference network architectures and possible MVDC-solutions. In this case, the components requirements, such as system protection or the converter components are derived and possible technical implementations analyzed.
In addition to technical implementation approaches a roadmap should highlight, the necessary technological milestones for the realization of MVDC networks, as also to contemplate possible integration concepts from previous AC voltage supply to blended or pure DC solutions.
This project complements very well the Forschungscampus FEN which focuses on the transformations which are expected to occur in future public networks where here the focus are private networks. It can be assumed that the early adoption DC technology will take the private networks where only the effectiveness of technological solutions matters instead of regulation and standard barriers.
