European Market Design for Control Energy
Finished project (12/16), supported by 50Hertz Transmission GmbH
Power generation and consumption need to be in perfect balance at any point in time. This is achieved through so-called control power. Therefore, system operators organize a market for the provision of control power and energy in order to ensure the stability of the electrical energy system in Europe. At the moment, these markets operate on a national level in Europe. In Germany, system responsibility belongs to the obligation of the four transmission system operators. In this project, we investigate the (economical and business) impacts of a transition from national markets to one single European market for balancing energy on individual market participants. For this purpose, we develop individual simulation models for different scenarios of such a European market.
