Ilka Jahn erhielt ihren Bachelor- und Master-Abschluss in Elektrotechnik von der RWTH Aachen, Deutschland, in den Jahren 2012 und 2015. Im Jahr 2015 war sie bei ABB Corporate Research in Schweden tätig. Im Jahr 2021 promovierte sie in Elektrotechnik an der KTH Stockholm, Schweden. Seit 2022 ist sie Nachwuchsgruppenleiterin am Institut for Automation of Complex Power Systems der RWTH. Sie ist Sekretärin der CIGRE WG B4.85 (interoperability in HVDC systems based on partially open-source software) und Empfängerin des CIGRE Next Generation Network Significant Contribution Awards 2022. Sie ist außerdem Mitglied der IEEE PES Task Force on Innovative Teaching Methods for Modern Power and Energy Systems und des Steeringkommitees des Center for Young Academics der RWTH. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen in der Regelung und Schutz von HGÜ-Systemen, Leistungselektronikanwendungen in Netzen und innovativen Softwarelösungen.
